The Art of Banksy exhibition comes to Melbourne
Banksy is one controversial mofo.
He’s defaced public spaces, had powerful political statements to make through his work and has both peeved and pleased a lot of different people from a lot of different walks of life.
Isn’t he awesome?
A ‘faceless’ Brit, he skulks around, using his skills in crafting handy stencils that say more with a few sprays than people and politicians can in eternal diatribes of crap. That’s the power of true art.
A street artist, he’s been operating solo since the 90s and has a lot to say about a lot of things. His subversive epigrams combine a stencil artwork style all his own that has over time, shot him to fame with his injections of humour and satirical commentary.
An exhibition of his controversial, funny, likeable and easy-enough-to-relate-to work is on in Melbourne at Birrarung Maar til 22 January. You need to go. Here’s how.
