A Night In Paris In The Heart Of Sydney
There are few places that scream as much of Paris as Ash Street and Angel Place laneways, right in the heart of Sydney. They both lead to and around Sydney’s premier entertainment venue by Merivale, The Ivy and feature a cute cobblestone feel, complete with suspended bird cages to add the air of whimsy. They make a perfect setting for the Night In Paris dinner.
A long Viking-esque table struck the length of the laneways as guests were seated amongst the finery, making way for an immediate barrage of a French inspired banquet. Chefs Ben Greeno (from The Paddington) and Nathan Johnson (Felix) pulled out all stops to relish the guests in all the Francophile’s sweetest savoury dreams.
With an amouse-bouche of Sydney rock oysters and French baguette cups, entrees of charcuterie and a rabbit and walnut terrine, the evening begun on a high. Followed closely by rotisseries with succulent roasted chicken and lamb shoulders with rosemary jus the dinner could only end in copious desserts as only the French have perfected: tarte au chocolate and choux, ginger biscuit and poached pear.
With a small jazz band as backing music to the whole scene, Merivale’s March Into Merivale signature suspended lip cutouts and enough fairy lights to enliven even the youngest of child’s minds, the dinner was as beautiful as it was delicious.
