  • A poolside Yuletide

Summer in Adelaide can sometimes be pretty intense, which is why it is always recommended to familiarise yourself with some of the city’s best poolside hangouts. You can head west from the CBD for a cooling dip at the Brighton Beach, which is a beach that is less busy and bustling than the nearby Glenelg. You can also cool off in the shallow breakers of the Espy or walk the jetty as the sun sets – ideal for couples or families! Brighton is an easy evening escape, only 30 minutes away from the city with a car or 45 minutes by train.

If you’re out with the kids or your loved ones, then you definitely need to head over to some of the outdoor cinemas that Adelaide boasts. There are several metropolitan councils are hosting free outdoor movies on summer evenings, some with free fun for kids and live entertainment.

Have you heard of the Santa Magic Cave? The Magic Cave is located at the David Jones store in Rundle Mall David and children can follow the footsteps to the Magic Cave where they will find a magical array of entertainment including Christmas displays, funny mirrors and a carousel ride, Here you can escape a hot day and join the queue to step into a winter wonderland, a sure winner for families and little kids!

  1.          Fancy a race?

Fans of car racing can look forward to the Adelaide Motorsport Festival which runs from the 7th of December onward. This fun-filled four day event runs from Thursday December 7th till Sunday December 10th and you’ll get an opportunity to spot everything from high-performance street cars all the way to heritage touring cars.

  1.     Hit the markets

Is there anyone out there who doesn’t love a good Christmas Market? Adelaide is home to several fantastic Christmas markets in December, including the Christkindlmarkt hosted by the C3 Church, with over 50 stalls, entertainment, food and German hospitality to celebrate the season. Another fantastic market to visit would be the Etsy Christmas Market, hosted by Etsy Made Local. This market brings the ever popular online marketplace to the streets of Adelaide with a special Christmas Market for everyone and is held in conjunction with Bonjour Adelaide.

  1.         Sit back and relax

The Jubilee Adventure Playground is a fantastic place to hit up when you are in Adelaide. It is located near the Onkaparinga River and just off of Saltfleet Street is the Jubilee Park. This park is a truly well-known spot for locals as the playground was built by the community itself! You won’t miss it because you will be able to see the large giraffe standing guard above the park since 2016. You can throw your own little relaxing Barbecue at this park, walk, cycle or even play a game of ball with friends and family.

  1.    Adelaide City Tree and Town Hall

Last but not least, the Adelaide City Tree and Town Hall. The magnificent tree in Victoria Square is fairly new, and it is huge and brightly lit – perfect for photos and to really get into that Christmas spirit in Summer. On a warm evening, have a  wander around Victoria Square, splash in the walkthrough fountain and stroll down to the town hall to see the projections on the building.
