5 reasons to take a golfing holiday in northwest Victoria at the RACV Goldfields Resort

It’s not often you’d think to take some time out mid-week to head out the back of Melbourne to northwestern Victoria for some quality R&R and holiday time.

Though for many RACV Resort-goers that’s exactly the difference between regular ‘time off’ and a seriously quality hit of time away from the hustle and bustle of life.

On the outskirts of the Victorian town of Ballarat lies the RACV Goldfields Resort, offering incomparable experiences for the region you can’t go past.

For the golf-lover, the nature-vivant, gastronome or general relaxation enthusiast, the resort has all bases covered well and then some, catering to hundreds of guests in a range of premium rooms with sweeping green views.

The Resort stands proudly in the centre of a super green 18-hole golf course with all the bells n’ whistles of what you’d expect from a PGA-approved course.

Golf is definitely their draw card, proving to be the reason tours of all sorts frequent the Resort at peak times like late December, but if that’s not your thing, don’t let it stop you.

With countless other activities and reasons to stay a while and unwind, the RACV Goldfields Resort does more than well.

  1. peace and quiet

The peace and quiet that goes hand-in-hand with any golf-course bound property 15 minutes out of a town of only just over 100,000 is enough in itself to force some downtime upon you.

Nothing says ‘disconnected’ than the morning chirps of cockatoos, galahs, kookaburras and lyrebirds first thing in the morning, coupled with the rumble of the in-room Nespresso machine and a welcome smattering of early-morning sunshine creeping through metres tall, seemingly ancient gum trees and wattles to really drive-home the out-of-city experience.

The RACV Goldfields Resort even comes with a five kilometre walking track around the entire property that you can probably knock over in a spare hour or so, too, giving you all the more reason to get amongst the peaceful surrounds and breathe-in some fresh air.

  1. activities and sports

For those who need a bit more get-up-and-go, there are activities galore to tackle, namely with a club in-hand.

Known for its 18-hole golf course and accompanying golf buggies, the RACV Goldfields Resort is all about having a hit and releasing your inner Tiger Woods.

The RACV Goldfields Super6 Tournament is running between Jan 20-21, catering to the golf fan whose patience doesn’t quite extend as long as the 18th hole, applications for the tournament wrap up on 12th January 2018. It’s a fully sanctioned event by the PGA and forms part of the Ladbrokes PGA Pro-Am series, giving amateurs the chance to play with a number of leading PGA Professionals across two exciting days of competition.See more about the tournament here.

For those whose calling isn’t golf, though, tennis courts on-site make for a relaxing and active way to while away an afternoon before hitting the in-house gym or outdoor pool.

  1. pampering and relaxation

As is often the case with a lot of sport, sun and activity, winding down is a must and the in-house spa and pamper centre at the RACV Goldfields Resort ticks all the boxes perfectly.

Located conveniently on level four of the resort, One Spa is a modestly-sized, but professionally operated hub of pampering, tranquillity and harmony, right in the centre of the bustling accommodation that you cannot go past.

  1. quality food and drink

You can never go wrong with a good feed, and the RACV Goldfields Resort is all about it.

They cater to all levels of expectation and taste, from the Resort’s lobby bar and café that offers casual walk-in, walk-out dining, to the more formal restaurant, Harvest Restaurant, downstairs that requires a booking, they cover all bases as seamlessly as your whim might demand.

The Resort’s casual offering covers the usual fare like wholesome soft shell tacos and steaks to chicken parmagianas and basic spirits and wine to the more finer side of gastronomy downstairs.

Harvest Restaurant is the Goldfields Resort’s answer to fine dining – and they do it well.

As unassuming as its setting might be – the dining room doubles as every morning’s breakfast buffet – the kitchen’s output tells another story altogether.

A wide ranging menu coupled with an accompanying wine list that champions locally produced drops with an affordable price tag and attentive staff who’re only too happy to serve your every need, it makes for one hell of a nice dining experience.

Think entrees of slow-cooked pork belly with a balsamic and raspberry reduction, stuffed zucchini flowers with pea puree and all manners of other vividly enticing accoutrement, leading you into mains. The main menu covers the mandatories like lamb, beef, fish and chicken, done supremely to the point where the likes of lamb racks fall off the bone and fish selections like Blue Eye that come with a sea salt foam on a bed of kimchi are too good, you don’t want them to end.

Prices start from around $28 per main.

  1. nice rooms with mod cons

You can always judge a resort, hotel or anything in-between by the quality of your bed and bathroom and the RACV Goldfields Resort does not disappoint.

They offer a fair spread of accommodation options for those on a budget, to those who’re after something a touch more luxurious like the Premium Fairway Suite. These premium sized rooms with full amenities, stunning views, in-room bubble bath and private balcony almost single-handedly make the stay.

With a pillow-like king sized bed, dual mounted LED TVs, kitchenette with Nespresso machine and complementary coffee capsules, in-bedroom spa, large bathroom and separate WC, the room is a majorly-sized, slice of heaven with stunning views that stretch the length of two fairways. Stunning.

At only an hour-and-a-half’s drive northwest of Melbourne CBD in the town of Creswick, the RACV Goldfields Resort is a relaxing, all encompassing hub to just as easily chill as it is to work on your gold drive.
